Limited Abundance
Point Reyes is closer to my home than Santa Clara, but it had been almost
two years since my last trip there.
So
when the weather forecast promised “abundant sunshine” during my first week
of freedom, I went again.
It turned out that the abundance was insufficient for the entire peninsula. The visitor center and the road to Limantour Road were well covered, but as I hiked towards the coast, more typical Northern California coastal summer weather took over. Fortunately the fog didn’t extend all the way to the ground.
I started
my 12-mile hike at the youth hostel, went down the Coast Trail to the beach,
followed it until it turned sculptured, then continued above the cliffs to
Arch Rock, and took the Bear Valley trail back to the visitor center. I enjoyed
the part along the beach the most: It’s always fun to see what the incoming
waves leave behind and how the birds react to the waves.
