Kamakura
February 20, 2004
Early Spring
I had expected deep
winter in Japan, but at least this February was quite warm around Tokyo, and
early blossoms were appearing on many trees. My coworkers from Yokohama and
I made a trip to Kamakura, one-time capital of Japan, now just a small town
south of Tokyo, made attractive by its location between hills and the sea and
by a particularly high concentration of temples and shrines.
On
earlier visits I had mostly photographed the main buildings, but this time
the signs of the season and the small details won out.
As so often in Japan, the restaurant where we had our second breakfast added
a small reminder of the season.
